Imran Khan : Shruti Hassan Aint My Sister

Imran Khan is all set to romance his childhood friend and debutant Shruti Hassan in upcoming flick Luck and both insists they are just good friends. When Shruti was quizzed whether she took Imran as her brother, she said, “Let’s not get into the brother sister relationships. We have been friends for the last so many years that I have lost count. We are romancing each other in the film so just keep to that. One can’t romance a brother, in fact the thought itself is repugnant.”Imran also reacted in the same way saying, “Don’t use the word sister, it sounds horrible. We are more of friends. One can’t romance a sister. It’s sounds very repulsive.”

Bollywood's Dark Underbelly

Statistics may suggest hundreds of helpless girls being molested, raped and murdered in the country every day. We just could not be bothered about them. But when someone from Bollywood is caught with his pants down, we love it. Why, asks Derek BoseNobody knows whether Shiney Ahuja did his maid dirty. The domestic help says it was rape. He says it was consensual sex. His wife says it is a frame-up. The cops say the accused has confessed. The victim’s family wants him hanged. And Bollywood, as usual, is ambivalent, speaking in different voices. Expressions like “blackmail”, “soft target”, “no smoke without fire” and “honey trap” are being freely bandied about by all and sundry. The media circus that has accompanied this tragedy is nothing new. We have seen it every time a Bollywood celebrity is involved in a scandal and dragged to court. Crime then takes on a new colour. It becomes a source of entertainment. Statistics may suggest hundreds of helpless girls being molested, raped and murdered in the country every day. We just could not be bothered about them. But when someone from Bollywood is caught with his pants down, we love it. Rape committed by Shiney Ahuja is special. Other rape cases do not matter. The vicarious pleasure we derive from watching the high and mighty fall has a lot to do with how deeply Bollywood is ingrained in our collective psyche.Any other public figure, be it a powerful politician, a corrupt cop or the scion of a reputed business family, does not evoke the same level of interest, however grave the crime might be. Bollywood heroes are supposed to be larger than life, capable of performing supernatural feats and more importantly, projected as paragons of self- righteousness and virtue. For them to stoop down to the level of ordinary crooks and rogues in real life can be hugely disappointing. It is simply not acceptable.Little wonder, nobody showed any sympathy for Rajesh Khanna when (at his prime) actress Amita’s 16-year-old daughter, Sahiba accused him of “molesting” her. We enjoyed the show when Mamta Kulkarni’s sister made similar charges against Anupam Kher. Then there was Jackie Shroff who got his knickers in a twist for “acting fresh” with Tabu, who was barely 15 years at that time. Likewise, we could never have enough of the courtroom drama that followed Pretti Jain, an upcoming starlet, accusing director Madhur Bhandarkar of raping her repeatedly and not signing her for any film.Somehow, we do not want to believe that the victim (or complainant) could actually have been the villain of the piece and that there is much more to the mud-slinging than what meets the eye. We rush to the conclusion that anybody wealthy and powerful is evil by default and deserves to be punished. By the same token, we are more than convinced that anybody who is defenceless and weak can do no wrong. It is this public mindset that many ambitious women who come in contact with Bollywood celebrities, have cleverly exploited to their advantage. The sad part is that even after realizing how vulnerable their stardom makes them, the men succumb to the temptations of the flesh. No male star, big or small, is ever ignorant about the perils that lie ahead for behaving inappropriately with the opposite sex. And yet, they fool around, again and again. On the surface, this would appear as a kind of death wish, conditioned by being in an industry where, more than anything else, it is plain luck that determines success. Nobody here is ever secure. Everybody must stake his/her chances so as to survive and morality be damned. So when an actor tempts fate and takes liberties with a woman (or law), it is considered par for the course. After all, that is how he has learnt to live in a competitive environment. He is guided by the good old Bollywood saying which translates thus: “On a good day you can get an elephant through the eye of a needle. But on your bad day, even an ant will get stuck.” It is all a matter of chance. Now delve a little deeper and some terribly uncomfortable questions would emerge. What makes Amitabh Bachchan want to sneak out dutiable goods through the Green Channel at Mumbai international airport? What made Sanjay Dutt stack unlicensed arms in his house while Mumbai burned, following the bomb blasts of 1993? What makes a known history sheeter like Salman Khan to get into drunken brawls? What makes so many Bollywood stars do drugs, evade taxes… or even on matters of the heart ~ What makes people like Raj Babbar, Dharmendra and Mahesh Bhatt commit bigamy? They are all educated people, conscious of the consequences of their action. They also know that to many Indians, they could even be role models. Yet, they choose to be rash and irresponsible, confident in the knowledge that they can get away with whatever they choose to do. This is the kind of over-confidence that has resulted in Bollywood biggies party to all kinds of offences ~ right from jumping traffic lights to slapping poor waiters in restaurants to committing rape and even murder. And when they actually get away with these criminal acts (because of who they are), they become all the more brash and brazen. They could not care being photographed while hobnobbing with an underworld don in Dubai. A Shakti Kapoor would brag about his exploits on the casting couch with women (by naming names) on national television. Another senior star thinks nothing of forging documents to import a top-end car without paying duty. These are just a few well-known instances of how stars do not just stop at pushing their luck for career reasons. Their devil-may-care attitude makes them plain contemptuous towards law.A successful Bollywood star can never be a good person to know. In fact, the more successful they are, the more unscrupulous they become. And yet, people fall over one another, ready to kiss the ground they walk on. We hear of bizarre tales of temples built in their name, fan mail written in blood, of youngsters wanting to immolate themselves outside star homes… We see uniformed police constables at a Mumbai court mobbing an undertrial, desperate to touch him, just because he answers to the name of Sanjay Dutt. At any queue, we ourselves make way for film stars, giving them right of passage. Such hero worship is bound to corrupt anyone mentally. The star begins to believe he is someone special, even divine. He forgets that even gods have feet of clay.

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif Sex Tape

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif's relationship may be on display more often than they'd like, but even this couple is a little traditional when it comes to PDA. That's why it was a surprise that there was a sex tape that surfaced in Canada of all places!
The amateur video was a big time fake. We're sure if Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif were even attempting to make a tape like that, they'd probably put a lot of work into it! From what we've heard, the counterfeit Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif actors donned wigs and make up and took part in some pretty hardcore XXX action. A clip from the video has surfaced amidst the younger generation of viewers.
Fake sex tapes are fairly common, but Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif are a strange target. The couple doesn't seem fazed enough by the occurrence to even comment on the tape. They've kept their cool and it's business as usual for Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif.
So we want to know what our readers think about this crazy story. Do you think that more of these kinds of videos of A-List Bollywood couples will surface? Or do you think this is a one time targeting? Let us know your thoughts.

Bollywood Film 'Kaminey' Promotes Safe Sex

Bollywood does something completely new and uses its talent to increase AIDS awareness in India. Rumor has it that the film "Kaminey," set to release August 14, features a new track that promotes safe sex.
The innovative song is being written and composed by the director himself, leading film maker, Vishal Bharadwaj and is being sung by none other than "Chaiyya Chaiyya" singer, Sukhwinder Singh. Heartthrob Shahid Kapoor will be lip-syncing the song in the film as his character, Guddu.
The buzz is that the video for the song focuses on the usage of condoms and is being filmed in a backdrop with red lighting. Shahid Kapoor's character will have a red ribbon around his neck, perhaps symbolic of the red AIDS awareness ribbon. Quite controversial for a film industry that finds kisses to be taboo!!
The lyrics to the song include, "Bhawra aaya aayaa re, gun gun karta aayaa re ... Yeh ishq nahih aasan, AIDS ka khatra hai ... pathwar pehen kar jaana- yeh aag ka dariya hai."

Katrina Kaif Says Kareena Kapoor is Showing Too Much Skin

There’s no doubt that Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif has worked incredibly hard to bring her career to the profound level it is at today.

Especially with her latest release ‘New York’, the actress was able to take the attention away from her beauty and draw it to her talent.
Well, now it seems like she’s on to criticizing actresses who would use skin and good looks to draw an audience. We are, of course talking about sexy star Kareena Kapoor who donned a bathing suit in her latest movie ‘Kambakkht Ishq.' Her scenes probably received rave reviews from scores of male viewers concentrating on her midriff rather then what she was saying; a sure fire way to gain fans!
Apparently Katrina Kaif said in an interview that she doesn’t need to wear short skirts or show off skin to get people to love her or her films. Apparently this was her way of saying that Kareena Kapoor’s draw was her body.
Unfortunately for Katrina Kaif, her do-good attitude has probably drawn an enemy in Kareena Kapoor. What do our readers think about Katrina Kaif’s comments? Do you think that she’s right about what she thinks? Let us know your thoughts.

SC verdict: govt in daze to fill Rs122bn gap

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court’s interim order to suspend the imposition of carbon surcharge on petroleum products has put the IMF programme of $7.6 billion loan at stake because the government will have to find ways and means to fill the revenue gap of Rs122 billion during the fiscal year 2009-10. Not filling this gap would mean increasing fiscal deficit by almost 0.8 per cent of the GDP, jacking it up to 5.7% from the existing target of 4.9%, which the IMF will not allow at any cost.“It is not possible to stick to the budgetary measures for fiscal 2009-10 if carbon surcharge is not to be collected. So all budgetary targets will have to be revised,” a senior official of the finance ministry said while talking to The News on phone from abroad soon after the announcement of interim order issued by the Supreme Court on Tuesday. When contacted for comments, Minister of State for Finance and Economic Affairs, Hina Rabbani Khar said that obviously the government could not raise question on the order announced by the Supreme Court but at the same time opined that it was an interim order. She admitted that it would put the government in a difficult situation because there are few alternatives to fill this huge gap of Rs122 billion. The options are limited to cutting down on the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) or printing more notes, which will be inflationary, she added. Acting Secretary Finance Ayub Tarin along with OGRA high-ups will submit the government viewpoint before the apex court tomorrow (Thursday), she added. She said the expenditures for running the government increased by 3 percent in the budget 2009-10 compared to revised estimates for 2008-09.Defending the imposition of carbon surcharge, she said that the government introduced transparent mechanism and the prices of POL products might have come down next month keeping in view the declining trend in international market. Another finance ministry official was of the view that the IMF considers the fiscal deficit target as sacrosanct and any deviation from the set target might put the whole programme in jeopardy. The $7.6 billion IMF programme has envisaged 4.9 per cent fiscal deficit target for 2009-10 and the suspension of carbon surcharge will create a huge gap of Rs122 billion, which will not be possible to fill either by reducing expenditures or increasing revenues. During the budget-making exercise, the finance ministry officials has expressed apprehensions that the Supreme Court might even block the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) because the government continued to charge this amount from the masses on the basis of an ordinance promulgated in 1961. “The double taxation such as sales tax as well as PDL was considered the most difficult issue to be defended before the Supreme Court,” said an official. He said the government by imposing fixed carbon surcharge tried to achieve two objectives: to ensure uninterrupted stream of revenue and to achieve parliament’s support. It was the view of the budget-makers that with carbon surcharge becoming part of the budget, the Supreme Court would not block the way of the government to generate Rs122 billion in the fiscal year 2009-10.

SC suspends carbon surcharge

ISLAMABAD: The government was made to fret over the fiscal impact while the masses went into a celebratory mode hoping for a permanent relief when the Supreme Court in its interim order on Tuesday suspended the imposition of carbon tax on petroleum products and directed the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) to issue a notification by Wednesday, suspending the tax till the final decision on the petitions. As a result, petrol and diesel prices are expected to come down by Rs10 and Rs8 per litre, respectively. Kerosene oil will become cheaper by Rs6 per litre. A three-member, bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmed and Justice Shahid Mahmood Akhtar Siddiqui, is hearing the petitions filed by PML-N Secretary General Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and Senator Rukhsana Zuberi of the Pakistan People’s Party, challenging the recent hike in the prices of petroleum products. The court ordered cancellation of the notification issued on June 30 regarding the imposition of carbon tax and directed the Ogra to stop charging the tax until the court concludes hearing. The court also directed the secretary, ministry of environment, to appear before the court on July 9 along with the summary, if any, forwarded to the government demanding funds for projects aimed at provision of pollution-free environment for which the government had to impose carbon surcharge. The apex court directed Ogra to issue a notification suspending the carbon tax on petroleum products, which must be applicable from today, July 8. Advocate Muhammad Ikram Chaudhry, counsel for PML-N Secretary General Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Khwaja Saeed Zafar, counsel for Ogra, Attorney General Latif Khosa, the secretary petroleum and representatives of Ogra and Senator Rukhsana Zuberi, one of the petitioners, appeared before the court in person. Muhammad Ikram Chaudhry advocate submitted that a barrel of crude oil produces 35 litres of diesel and 27.5 litres of petrol. “Assuming that the price of crude oil is US$70 per barrel on the international market, the government roughly earns a profit of Rs1050 from only these two extracts of crude oil”, he contended. He further submitted that the government had produced no documents to show that the imposition of carbon surcharge was necessary. The learned counsel argued that the government was charging sales tax on every component of petroleum products, which, he said, was against the provisions of the Constitution.Counsel for Ogra Khawaja Saeed submitted that the government had replaced petroleum development levy with carbon surcharge and that increase in the prices of petroleum products was due to their increasing prices on international markets. The court directed counsel for Ogra to provide in writing the break-up of the components of the prices of petrol, diesel and kerosene oil, as on June 30 and July 1. According to the break-up provided by Ogra, price of petrol on June 30 stood at Rs56.21 per litre including ex-refinery price of Rs31.91, petroleum development levy (PDL) Rs10.54, sales tax Rs7.75, oil marketing companies’ margin Rs1.39, dealers’ margin Rs1.74 and inland freight Rs2.38.On July 1, it was raised to Rs62.13 per litre including ex-refinery price of Rs36.59, carbon surcharge Rs10, sales tax Rs8.57, oil marketing companies’ margin Rs1.60, dealers’ margin Rs2.00 and inland freight Rs3.37, Khawaja Saeed submitted.Similarly, per litre price of diesel on June 30 was Rs55.71 including ex-refinery price of Rs34.78, PDL Rs8.53, sales tax Rs7.68, oil marketing companies’ margin Rs1.35, dealers’ margin Rs1.50 and inland freight Rs2.22, while on July 1, the product was sold at Rs62.65 including the ex-refinery price of Rs40.94, carbon surcharge Rs8, sales tax Rs8.64, oil marketing companies’ margin Rs1.35 dealers’ margin Rs1.50 and inland freight Rs2.22, counsel for Ogra said. He further stated that price of kerosene oil per litre stood at Rs51.87 on June 30 including ex-refinery price of Rs32.77, PDL Rs6.88, sales tax Rs7.15, oil marketing companies’ margin Rs1.74, inland freight Rs3.61 while dealers were given no margin. On July 1, the price of the product was hiked to Rs59.35 including the ex-refinery price Rs39.26, carbon surcharge Rs6, sales tax Rs8.19, oil marketing companies’ margin Rs1.72 and inland freight Rs4.16.The Supreme Court observed that the statement showed that in fact ex-refinery prices and sales tax ratio had been increased on petroleum products. Attorney General Sardar Latif Khosa submitted that the government had to increase the prices due to increase in the prices of petroleum products on international markets and for running the affairs of the country in the wake of budget deficit. The court, however, wanted to know the reason behind the imposition of carbon surcharge. “Has the ministry of environment forwarded any summary demanding funds for projects for the improvement of environment for which the government was compelled to impose carbon surcharge?” Justice Mehmood Akhtar Siddiqui enquired. “Where from the proposal for the imposition of carbon surcharge came?” the court asked. The attorney general informed the court that the cabinet had taken the decision in the financial bill for the year 2009-10.The court, however, observed that it was of the opinion that there was no immediate need for the imposition of carbon surcharge instead of the petroleum development levy. The court observed that it was necessary to examine whether the ministry of environment had demanded any amount for provision of pollution-free environment.Earlier at the start of the hearing of the case, the chief justice opened the envelope in the court containing report submitted by the commission headed by Justice (retd) Bhagwandas regarding the price mechanism of petroleum prices. The chief justice directed the parties to get copies of the said report from the registrar of the apex court and the court would take it up on July 9 during the hearing of the case.

Aniston took to the stage at the Accepting Women In Film ceremony to collect the Crystal Award - which honours her as an advocate for expanding the role of women in Hollywood. Aniston used the podium to poke fun at her rocky love life. She told the crowd, "I'm trying to be more careful than I have been in the past about the titles of movies that I choose to be in. It's funny - I noticed something a couple of years ago that there seemed to be this strange parallel to the movies I was doing and my life off screen.” "It started with The Good Girl. Then that evolved into Rumor Has It, followed by Derailed, and then there was The Break-Up. And then on the lighter side was Friends with Money, which I felt was a bit on the nose." And the star also took the chance to try and hunt down a new partner: "So if any of you have a project titled Everlasting Love with an Adult, Stable Male..."

Lindsay’s Comeback ‘Contract’

It looks like Lindsay Lohan’s much touted big-screen comeback, comes with conditions attached, after producers of her new flick issued the troubled star with a list of demands.Lohan, who recently revealed her super-skinny size zero body, has been told by producers of her new movie The Other Side - a part she got only after Katie Holmes dropped out - to fatten up and undergo weekly drugs testing.“Producers want Lindsay looking like a normal, healthy girl, not a skeleton,” spilled a movie source. “So they ordered her to eat more. They refuse to risk her dropping out of the movie because of her problems.”And in order to satisfy nervous movie insurers, Lilo’s been forced to sign a contract agreeing to attend weekly weigh-ins, adhere to a nightly curfew and undergo random drug testing.

B-town’s latest obsession happens to be knocking off as many kilos as possible…

This is one meltdown that everyone in B-town is celebrating. Stars are sweating it out, sacrificing calories just to get the right measure. The weight loss posed a strange problem recently when a 10 kilos lighter Vidya Balan reported for the continuity shots of Ishqiya and all her costumes fell off the new lithe frame! But debutant director Abhishek Chaubey wasn’t complaining for he admitted that his heroine was indeed looking “gorgeous” after the load-shed. Vidya clarifies, “10 kilos is a misnomer but I am surely feeling healthier and fitter now.”Ditto Rani Mukerji who bought Rs 7 lakh-worth of fitness equipment to tone up for a solo song in her forthcoming YRF venture, Hadippa.Reportedly, the actor sacrificed sugar and mutton for her new form. A rigorous yoga regimen expedited her weight-loss further. Priyanka Chopra knocked off her curves for the supermodel role in Fashion while Kareena Kapoor shot to fame with her “size-zero” two-piece role in Tashan as she traded her favourite sandwiches and Chinese food for dietician Rujuta Diwekar’s “frequent mini-meals” formula.Sonam Kapoor shrugged off her 80-plus kilos girth for a svelte form in her debut venture Saawariya. Right now, without a doubt, thin surely is in!

Kat Shows She Still Cares

Kat Shows She Still Cares….

It’s standard in Tinseltown that when loved-up couples hit the rocks, the lovebirds quickly collect themselves and pose for happy-couple shots for the media in a lame effort to shut off rumours of what’s going on behind closed doors. Well, the scene was no different in B-town: first we hear about Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s allegedly nasty break-up, with Sallu throwing Kat’s shampoo out of the window and Kat supposedly having an SMS link-up with John Abraham. But now we see Kat rushing to be by Sallu’s side. Clearly, she’s out to prove her love is real and that she’s here to stay!

The grapevine says Shahid would call up Prinks in Bangkok, where she’s shooting for Yash Raj’s Pyaar Impossible. No, not for coochie-cooing. But simply to read her a list of rules by which she should run her life. This included not wearing anything too short or clingy!
